Lee County Water FestivalThe Lee County Water Festival is a free educational event for all 4th-grade students in Lee County, Alabama. Over 1,960 public, private and home-schooled students attended the event in April 2007. AUEI has become an active participant in the annual Water Festival through donations and staff support.

Auburn University Earth Week CelebrationThe Environmental Institute takes an active role in Earth Week celebration on-campus. Since 2003, AUEI has hosted seminars, films, exhibitions, music and competitions in partnership with other campus organizations.
Return to Top ![]() Interim Director Dennis Block explains to Dean Road Elementary students about the bacteria growing from samples collected in the classroom as part of proper hand washing program. Environmental Awareness and HealthAUEI staff visits local schools and organizations to help increase environmental awareness and point out issues of how the world we live in can affect our health. Such visits include the importance of proper hand washing and partnering on presentations of the role of bats in reducing insect populations, and pollinating plants.

River of Words ContestThe Environmental Institute is partnered with the Alabama Center for the Book, Auburn University Libraries, Alabama Water Watch and Auburn University College of Agriculture to host the annual Alabama portion of the international River of Words Competition. River of Words is an environmental art and poetry contest created to promote watershed awareness, literacy, and the arts among our nation's youth.
